Strategy

The dynamic of the current challenges urges us to ensure that our products, services and operations are not only done with quality efficiency, but also with respect to the environment and taking into account our stakeholders and the communities surrounding our operations.

 

FEMSA’s sustainability strategy is the platform that guides and manages the parameters to meet the expectations of our stakeholders and our sustainability commitments, and it allows us to carry out the planning and development of the projects, programs, actions and investments of the economic and human resources that we suggest for the short, medium and long term.

Complying with it will allow us to align and focus our efforts strategically, maximize and strengthen existing sustainability initiatives, manage and mitigate the impact of our products, services and activities, and adapt better to an environment of constant changes, in order to favor the positive transformation of our communities.

 

This strategy has three guiding axes to which the sustainable management of our business units is aligned. For each of these axes, FEMSA defines and implements policies, develops management systems, establishes strategic goals, and monitors their performance incorporating feedback from its stakeholders; all of this with a vision of continuous improvement.

In turn, each action area has focus issues, which are capitalized on concrete actions in which each Business Unit, based on its priorities and traits, builds and carries out action plans to comply with the Sustainability Strategy. At FEMSA we bet on the creation of social value and we pursue synergies to maximize our positive impact on the environment. We seek to ensure that our management systems, as well as the standards we use as a reference, contribute to the achievement of our Sustainability Strategy’s goals.

Alignment with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Global Compact works with companies from all around the world in order to align their operations and strategies with ten universal principles. Since 2005, we are signatories of the United Nations Global Compact, and we are committed to promoting its ten principles on human rights, labor practices, the environment and anti-corruption.

 

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals represent an ambitious plan to achieve a more inclusive, thriving, sustainable and resilient world. These goals call on countries to improve the lives of people all around the world, joining efforts to address the most critical global problems by 2030: poverty, inequality and climate change.

 

To achieve a truly global impact, businesses and civil society must also take action. Joining the efforts of the 2030 Global Agenda means that we contribute to improving the quality of life and well-being of people, and that we care for the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems

Incorporating sustainability into our Business Units and their operations is our way of contributing to those Sustainable Development Goals that are in our reach of influence.

 

In 2017 we carried out a process to identify which are the Sustainable Development Goals where FEMSA and its Business Units make the greatest contribution, to achieve the 2030 goals established by the UN.

 

The result of this analysis can be seen in the segmentation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals into two groups:

At FEMSA we are committed to continue incorporating the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals into our sustainability strategy as we promote them among our stakeholders.

Relationship with stakeholders

FEMSA’s Business Units have people on their teams who are responsible for attending to their stakeholders, and that make sure to identify the topics and channels of dialogue that might be relevant to them. Thus, we aspire to improve our relationship with them, as well as our processes, products and services.

 

In 2012 we started the process of bonding with our stakeholders, which involved the identification of said groups and relevant issues, as well as the development of communication channels and feedback mechanisms.

Bonding with our stakeholders is an essential process in order for us to understand their expectations, needs and concerns, and being able to suggest tangible solutions to them. With this purpose in mind, we have developed various communication tools to establish contact points with them, in addition to holding face-to-face meetings in different cities around the world.

 

The results of this dialogue are incorporated into the strategic planning process and help us better the sustainability strategy.
